An urban hotel created by and for gays – because at that time, LGBTQ didn’t exist – which emerged at the centre of Barcelona and faced the world with elegance and clarity. The idea broke the mould and marked our commitment to the world. Since then we have grown, we have changed, and that building designed with 19th century architecture that was a meeting point for guests and locals has become part of the history of the community in the city. Axel Hotel Barcelona is a place without labels or stigma of any type, where there is only freedom, in the broadest sense of the word. It is not a hotel, it is a building where things happen. You will find it right at the heart of one of the most interesting and diverse areas of the city. Fashion shops, restaurants, bars and gay clubs have taken root in its surroundings, forming part of the culture of the neighborhood.
