About
Between one and the other, a 19th century building teleports you to the most traditional Madrid. Axel Hotel Madrid is accessed by a gallery, which was formerly the entrance for horse-drawn carts. Today, you enter an audacious gypsy universe, where references to different periods are mixed.
Rooms with playful, soft lighting are alternated with majestic suites crowned with frescos. Columns, lace curtains, mannequins, pop neons. Everything here looks like it was taken from a movie from Almodóvar's most fun period.
The hotel, a refuge of art and freedom during the Franco period, is just 300 metres from the Teatro Español, in the famous Barrio de las Letras area of Madrid. It was the cultural epicentre during the Spanish Golden Age and is today one of the most cosmopolitan and interesting parts of Madrid.
