About
CENTRALE for contemporary art is the City of Brussels’ flagship centre for contemporary visual culture, housed in a former industrial site that echoes the city’s architectural and civic evolution. Since 2006, it has been reimagining the relationship between art and urban life by presenting exhibitions, performances, screenings, talks and multidisciplinary projects that engage deeply with society’s pressing questions and artistic innovation. Rather than maintaining a static permanent collection, Centrale’s programme emphasises transience and dialogue: exhibitions change regularly, foregrounding both established and emerging voices from Brussels and abroad. Guided tours, workshops and participatory events extend the encounter beyond viewing, inviting visitors into active engagement with ideas, materials and the processes of creation. Through its integration of local context, social inquiry and artistic ambition, Centrale embodies a space where contemporary art is not only displayed but felt and discussed — an institution that reflects both the diversity of Brussels and the evolving forms of cultural expression within the city and beyond.
