Euskadi, or the Basque Country, stands as the first region in Europe to be recognized as Queer Destinations Committed—a distinction awarded by Queer Destinations in collaboration with the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA). This pioneering achievement reflects Euskadi’s deep and ongoing commitment to ensuring safe, inclusive, and welcoming experiences for LGBTQ+ travelers. Through the “Hospitality Meets Diversity” training program, over 50 local tourism businesses—including hotels, restaurants, museums, and cultural operators—have been equipped with tools to provide respectful, informed, and truly inclusive hospitality. This isn’t just a certification—it’s a regional movement toward visibility, dignity, and excellence in LGBTQ+ travel. Euskadi’s leadership in this area sets a benchmark not only for Spain, but for all of Europe.
