About

The 4-star Puente Colgante Boutique Hotel is crafted for those who appreciate world exploration, fine cuisine, and the art of living.

The hotel’s story revolves around Manuel Calvo y Aguirre, who amassed his fortune in Havana in the mid-19th century through the sugar cane business. Returning to Portugalete in 1898, he established his residence in the mansion that now serves as the Puente Colgante Boutique Hotel.

In his will, he specified that his home should be transformed into a hotel after his death, with the profits dedicated to providing food for the needy.

During the early 20th century, the hotel welcomed distinguished guests such as Empress Zita of Bourbon-Parma and King Alfonso XIII of Spain, who hosted grand parties in its elegant function room.
