About
Legaire-Etxea is a charming rural house located in the village of Ibarguren, near the municipality of Araia (Álava), in the heart of the Basque Country. Nestled in the small town of Asparrena—whose name means "Edge of the Meadow"—this peaceful retreat is just 20 minutes from Vitoria-Gasteiz, 40 minutes from San Sebastián, and one hour from Bilbao.
Whether visiting for leisure or business, Legaire-Etxea offers a welcoming and comfortable home base in Euskadi.
Álava is perhaps the least-known of the three Basque provinces, yet it holds a unique charm. It is a perfect destination for a well-deserved holiday or a rural weekend getaway. The province is home to breathtaking natural landscapes, including the Entzia mountain range and the Legaire meadows—over 4,000 hectares of hiking trails and open countryside. These natural wonders are conveniently located just in front of Legaire-Etxea, allowing guests to easily grab a backpack and set out for a day in the mountains with family or friends.
Exploring the area, visitors will discover the stunning 6-kilometer-long karst valley, home to historical and natural treasures such as the Mendiluze stone circle and the Arno labyrinth. This labyrinth leads to the famous Zalaportillo arch—one of the most iconic natural formations in the Basque Country.
